Autumn is just arriving and we’ve got some exciting updates for you regarding our Influencer Network launch in November, our Accelerator conference in March 2019 and more.
Hot topics and events
Last week we celebrated National Work Life Week – how did you mark this at your organisation? Read more from Working Families about how others have been supporting this important campaign to improve wellbeing and work life balance for everyone in the workplace.
This coming week brings World Mental Health Day and our seminar with Anita Cleare on ‘Helping children deal with stress and anxiety’, whilst last week at our ‘Thriving Sustainably’ seminar Talking Talent explained how working parents can develop sustainable habits to cope with the changing needs of family and career. Milly picks out a few more highlights from our autumn events schedule here.
Launching our new Influencer Network
Plans are well underway for the launch of our new Influencer Network on Wednesday 21st November, kindly hosted by Linklaters in the City. A number of our members have already been in touch to express interest and help shape the network and launch event!
Are you passionate about bringing about a more inclusive work culture, playing a proactive role in making change happen, supporting a broader social purpose? Would you like to join a unique and purposeful network of like-minded people and get involved with our partner Working Families, the UK’s work-life balance charity? If so, then take the first step by putting the date in your diary! We’ll send out a detailed invitation with booking information during October.
At this interactive launch event, speakers from Cityparents and Working Families will discuss with attendees the purpose and aim of the Influencers Network, and look forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas for progressing cultural change in the City. Want to find out more and be involved before 21st November? Contact Alison Deane, our Influencer Chair, or take a look at our Cityparents Influencers webpage and our flier.
Our Spring Conference
Our next Cityparents Accelerator Conference will take place on the afternoon of 20 March 2019. At this half-day event, hosted by Allen & Overy in the City, participants will have an opportunity to hear Cityparents expert speakers discuss a range of careers, wellbeing and family topics. We are also delighted to announce our two keynote speakers: Sam Smith, founder and chief executive of the corporate advisor and brokerage firm FinnCap will share her perspectives on her career, being a working mother and workplace culture in the City. Later in the day author, journalist and mental health campaigner Bryony Gordon will talk about her experiences of parenthood and mental illness.
If you’d like to explore your career ambitions and work on areas for development, hear valuable tips for supporting your own health and wellbeing, network with others in similar City professions, and access advice about balancing work with home responsibilities, then join us on 20 March from 12-6pm, followed by a drinks reception. Tickets cost £75 and bookings will open later this autumn; in the meantime you can register your interest here.
Our expanded team
We welcome warmly two new colleagues to the Cityparents team: Fran Murrells, our new Events Co-ordinator, joins us to look after our busy events schedule, working alongside Milly, our Cityparents Network Manager. Alison Deane joins us as Chair of our new Influencers Network that we’ll be launching in November.
We hope you’ll get the chance to meet Alison and Fran at an event soon. For a reminder of how to contact any of our team, please click here. If you'd like to get in touch, we'd be delighted to hear from you and welcome all feedback, and will respond as soon as we can.
Great speakers at our Cityworks events
Members of our employer forum, Cityworks, met last month to network and hear about Hogan Lovell’s award-winning Diversity & Inclusion agenda. We’ve got a great line-up of speakers in the coming weeks including:
- Kathryn Nawrockyi, formerly Director of Gender Equality at BITC, on ‘Intersectional Approaches to Managing Diversity’
- Kate Glazebrook, formerly in the Government’s Nudge Unit and CEO of Applied, on ‘Changing behaviours in the workplace’
- Helen Rose, COO of TSB, on ‘Closing the Gender Pay Gap’
Cityworks is open to HR Diversity & Inclusion and Wellbeing professionals in City firms; for more information about joining please click here, or contact Helen.
Don’t be a no show!
We welcome all feedback about our network and events, and do our best to respond and react where possible. One recurring observation we receive from members, and that we need your help to address, is the number of empty chairs visible at events showing on our website as ‘fully booked’. Each event we organise sees a high number of ‘no-shows’, which is of course disappointing for members who may have wished to attend but were unable to secure a space, or who were wait-listed. We’re keen to make our events as accessible as possible for those who genuinely want to attend. We attempt to predict ‘no-show’ rates and over-book accordingly, we run an online waiting list for all fully booked events and we monitor booking levels daily, releasing spaces to the waiting list as these become available.
If you are no longer able to attend an event, please cancel your booking at least 48 hours in advance. Not turning up, or cancelling on the day does not give us the opportunity to re-advertise and fill the empty seats. Here’s the cancellation link for any Cityparents event booking: https://www.cityparents.co.uk/Account/Events/Bookings
We include this link in every event reminder which goes out to all registered members a few days before each event. Why not bookmark the link for speedy retrieval in future? Thanks for your help, and please keep us posted on how well this is working from your perspective.
