Meet the WLC Team: Vicky Kyriacos
In the latest edition of our Meet the WLC team interview series, we meet Communications and Social Media Manager, Vicky Kyriacos. She tells us about her tween age girls who keep her busy at home, how she looks after her own wellbeing and about her epic taste in music!
WLC: Vicky please start by telling us about your background, and how you found your way to the WorkLife Central team?
VK: Seeing the job advert for WLC was fate as I wasn’t actively looking for a new role, but this caught my eye. After reading the job description for the Team Coordinator role, I knew I had to apply as it sounded perfect for my skillset - whilst allowing me to learn and develop new ones too. After being here a year I became the Communications and Social Media Manager, which has been such an exciting role to take on.
My background has centred around Customer Services and Office/People Management. My first job was for a bank in the City at 18 and I continued to work for banks in London and Dublin until I had my twin girls. Having the girls was a total game changer for my career. I knew I didn’t want to go back to the City but was keen to find a role where I would be able to build a career and learn new things, whilst still being there for my family. I was very lucky and found a job that allowed me to do just that, working for 5 years as an Office Manager for a local builder before joining WLC nearly 3 years ago.
WLC: Tell us about your role: what do you do for WorkLife Central and what do you like most about your job?
VK: As Communications and Social Media Manager I create and write our Social Media posts, email communications and contribute to designing some of our corporate flyers.
What do I most like - Is it a cliché to say I love my job and working with the WLC team! It has bought out a creative side of me that I have never used before. I absolutely love watching or reading our content and summarising it into a few short sentences for emails and social posts. It is a skill that I never thought I possessed, but one I thoroughly enjoy and get a huge sense of achievement from doing.
WLC: Tell us something that people might not know about you?
VK: I have the cheesiest taste in music. Give me a cheesy pop song and I will be there singing (well attempting to) and dancing away. I love going to concerts and have been lucky enough to see many artists from 90’s and 00’s stars such as Girls Aloud, Boyzone, Blue and S Club 7 to huge icons like Elton John, Take That, Westlife, Robbie Williams, The Killers and Bon Jovi. My favourite artist has to be Bryan Adams. The first time I saw him he came out and sang Heaven without any backing band, just him and his guitar…he was amazing.
Unfortunately, I am one of those people who get the words wrong though, my husband and girls love to laugh at me and correct me.
WLC: How do you look after your own wellbeing?
VK: This is tough with two nearly 11-year old girls (11 going on 18!!), a husband and a dog but I do enjoy going to the gym. I try to get there 3 times a week and love a Body Combat class. Aside from this I have some fantastic friends and family who I love getting together with for a chat, a bit of retail therapy or a glass of prosecco.
WLC: What’s your favourite part of the WorkLife Central programme?
VK: I love the whole programme but if I had to choose an area, for me it would be any content on tweens…. with the girls about to start secondary school I need all the help I can get. I also really enjoy reading the weekly blogs and hearing about the lives and views of our members.
