Events Round - Up July 2019
It has been an exciting few months here at Cityparents with many successful events. Even the rainy weather didn’t stop us from making the most of our packed schedule!
Having started at Cityparents in May this year, I was able to meet quite a few of our expert speakers as well as introduce myself to our wonderful Cityparents audience. Lots of inspiring talks have taken place, interesting and thought-provoking conversations have been had and we have come away lots of content to think about.
April saw us through some very insightful topics, such as “Helping Children deal with Stress and Anxiety”, a seminar on networking and making first impressions, “Managing Sibling Conflict” and strategies to sleep train your little ones without tears. My thoughts on some of the takeaways, speaking as a parent of three young children, were – why has no one given me this advice earlier?
May certainly was another full month of seminars across all Cityparents topic areas. From “Raising Confident, Competent Children” to “Getting to the C-Suite” we had something in store for everyone in our ever-growing network.
During Mental Health Awareness Week (13 – 17th of May) we had some fantastic speakers in to talk about “Thinking differently about Failure” and “Wellbeing and resilience for sustainable performance”. All topics were very relevant and inspiring for those that attended. A highlight was to have Nick Elston speak about his experience of “Living with Anxiety”. Dealing with a lifetime of stress, anxiety and OCD himself, he is best placed to not only understand what others are going through, but he is also able to offer tried and tested advice on getting anxiety under control.
The week after we were able to welcome Baroness Chakrabarti, who spoke to us about her career, significant milestones, current projects she is engaged with and to celebrate the centenary of women in the law. If you missed this talk, you can still listen to our podcast with her which is available on all major podcast platforms, or our website here.
We successfully held our first few Webinars, which have been hugely popular. Watch this space as there are many more to come!
June allowed us to think about our career paths and how to make remote working successful for all, how to resume your career after a significant break and how to manage your motivation to manage your time. From a wellbeing perspective, we had experts speak to us about “Stress and Burnout” and “Menopause and Andropause”. The webinar on “Creating a love of sport”, a seminar on “Raising resilient children” as well as a session on “Understanding the teenage brain” have allowed us all to reflect on and get expert advice on parenting and the challenges that come with it.
Looking on to the next half of this year, we have a wealth of events in the diary: tips on how to become a “Productivity Ninja”, “Positive Parenting in a Digital Age”, a seminar on “Fatherhood and leadership at home” and a special visit from founder and CEO Meik Wiking of the Happiness Research Institute to talk to us about the “Science of Happiness and Making Happy Memories.” For the November Speaker Series event we will welcome Jo Swinson MP, co-architect of Shared Parental Leave, to speak to us about gender equality and how to achieve it.
I cannot wait to see what else the rest of the year has in store for us. I am looking forward to meeting you at our next event!
