Cityparents Annual Matching Scheme 2020 Launch
The annual Cityparents Mentoring Matching Scheme is now open! The two week application window opened on Monday 4th May and closes at midnight, Friday 15th May. Meetings can take place by phone, Skype or Zoom, and our launch and first supporting event will both be delivered by Webinar. Read on to hear how our cross-company initiative can help you enhance your career and personal growth.
Benefits of the Scheme
Our cross-company scheme provides mentees with valuable 1:1 support and has the huge advantage of enabling people to be matched with a mentor from outside their own firm and/or industry. Mentors and mentees alike can broaden their perspectives, expand their networks and trust in the confidential and impartial nature of the process.
“I’m pleased to say that I have been promoted and I feel sure that my mentor has played a huge part in helping me with both my knowledge and confidence levels, which have certainly played a huge part in achieving my goal!” HR Director, 2019 Cohort
Reasons for Taking Part
- Advance your career
- Resolve an issue
- Achieve a goal
- Plan for/adapt to a change
- Navigate your organisation
Interested in being a Mentor? Mentors can also gain a lot from taking part and want to participate for varying reasons, such as:
- Having benefitted from being a Mentee in the past and wanting to give back
- To share career experiences to help someone else
- To connect with others outside your area of work and hear different perspectives on work/organisational/life issues
- To help support positive cultural change and more inclusive workplaces.
“Mentoring gives me the opportunity to help support an individual with their career and I feel like I’m making a difference. It provides me with time to discuss something outside of my own work related issues and hear from others about their challenges. I enjoy learning from their experiences and thought processes.” Mentor, 2019 Cohort
How the Scheme Works
Participants of any background, gender and seniority are welcome and you don’t need to be a parent, or based in London either - the scheme can match virtual pairings. Each year participants stem from a broad range of professions including law, banking, asset management, accountancy, human resources, information technology, insurance, human resources, real estate and media.
The scheme offers Mentees a supportive and confidential environment in which to discuss and think through any issues regarding their work or home life. Participation as a Mentee is free for Cityparents members with ‘Full Access’ paid membership (either Corporate or Individual) and there is no charge for Mentors to apply. Once a match has been made, we ask mentors and mentees to commit to meeting approximately every 6 weeks for up to a year.
Year Round Mentoring Programme
Participants benefit from the following support throughout the year:
- Two Mentoring Surgeries designed to boost mentoring skills and provide opportunities for mentees and mentors to connect with others.
- A series of Mentoring Circles that create an opportunity for receiving confidential peer support, as well career advice from Sarah.
- A Quarterly Newsletter with useful resources, articles and tips.
- Podcast sharing personal stories and experiences of mentoring.
To receive all our Mentoring Programme updates and invitations, please check your email preferences at the foot of your Account Profile.
